The Art of Letting Go
Ebru Karayiğit is a watercolor artist whose work focuses primarily on landscapes and still lifes. Her work is inspired by everyday moments and her travels. She approaches painting with a holistic mindset, seeing each interaction with the natural world as an opportunity to translate experience into visual form. Watercolor’s transient and unpredictable nature deeply resonates with Ebru. Working with water requires patience, trust, and the willingness to let go of perfectionism—principles that shape not only her artistic process but also her broader philosophy of life.
Although watercolor is known for its transparency, she is drawn to its capacity for vibrancy. Her paintings often embrace strong, expressive color and a sense of playfulness, allowing bold hues to interact freely within fluid values. Her practice often centers on painting skies, particularly during golden hour, when light shifts quickly and atmosphere feels most alive. Using wet-into-wet layering, she allows colors to flow and interact organically, embracing chance rather than control. Through this process, she aims to capture fleeting moments and subtle emotional states, inviting viewers to slow down and experience the beauty of impermanence.
Ebru is an associate member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society (BWS), exhibiting artist member of the Art League in Alexandria, VA, and Capitol Hill Art League in Washington, DC. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
